Managing Partners:

Alfred Nijkerk (founder)
Alfred Nijkerk (1965) holds a MSc in Pharmacy and a PharmD from Utrecht University. After a few years as an Industrial Pharmacist at Byk Netherlands (currently Takeda), he founded three specialized pharmaceutical contract manufacturing companies (two of which he co-founded together with Bart van den Berg). In 2001 Alfred founded VenGen together with Bart van den Berg. Since then Alfred co-founded Lactive with Herman de Boer and Willem Fokkema, Porifarma together with Ronald Osinga and foremost to-BBB where he got involved in 2001, more than two years before the formal establishment of to-BBB technologies BV. Alfred founded to-BBB together with Pieter Gaillard and Bert de Boer and succeeded in obtaining over €6 million in grants and venture funding up to 2008. Alfred was to-BBB's Chief Business Officer from founding until January 1st, 2008. In 2009, Alfred founded Photonics Healthcare together with Bert Mik and Michael Muenker and ViciniVax together with Toos Daemen, Jan Wilschut, Hans Nijman and Ate van der Zee. Alfred has been CEO of ViciniVax until June 2015. Currently, Alfred is CEO of VenGen venture UbiQ, a spin-out of the Netherlands Cancer Institute.


Bart van den Berg (founder)
Bart van den Berg (1965) holds a MSc in Business Economics from Tilburg University. He worked as a consultant before he founded two pharmaceutical contract-manufacturing companies. Together with Alfred Nijkerk he founded VenGen in 2001. Since then, he has co-founded several life science start ups including FlexGen. In 2004 Bart joined the VenGen venture DiagnOptics as Managing Director. Since then, DiagnOptics realized a financing round, obtained several grants and introduced their first product, the AGE Reader, to the market.

Venture Partners:

Jaap Blaak (co-founder)
Jaap Blaak (1941) holds a MSc in Physics and Business Economics from the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam. After joining Hoogovens he became managing director of a Holland Aluminium subsidiary in the USA. After 4 years in the US he started the companies Eldim and Elbar in Limburg, the Netherlands, resulting in the Interturbine Group of Companies which expanded to Germany, Singapore and the USA. The Interturbine Group was later sold to Pratt &Whitney Aircraft and the European companies Eldim and Elbar to Sulzer in Switzerland. During that period Jaap also followed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
In 1983 Jaap joined the Maatschappij voor Industriële Projecten (MIP, later Alpinvest) and became CEO in 1986. With the start of TAilWind BV in 1995, Jaap became invester and co-founder in several (biotech) companies in the Netherlands. In July 2001 Jaap joined VenGen as co-founder. Jaap has been the founding CEO of FlexGen and is currently chairman of the board.


Rob Braakman
Rob Braakman (1953) is an ophthalmic surgeon in the ophthalmology department of the Spaarne Ziekenhuis in Hoofddorp/Heemstede, The Netherlands. He holds a PhD in physiology (1988, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam). Dr Braakman acts as a business angel since 1998 and joined VenGen as Venture partner in 2005.

Jasper Dijkstra

Jasper Dijkstra
Jasper Dijkstra (1983) holds a MSc in medical biology from the University of Groningen. After  his graduation he started working as a Technology Transfer Officer at the Business Generator Groningen. During this period he specialized in intellectual property management and commercialization of knowledge and technology in life sciences. Currently, Jasper is commercial manager at VenGen venture DiagnOptics and Business Analyst at VenGen.
